Welcome jobs relief
Dear Sir,
It is a welcome relief that 250 manufacturing jobs in Lancashire look set to be saved after BAE Systems announced that a new £1.6 billion deal to supply the Royal Saudi Air Force with 22 Hawk advanced trainer aircraft has been signed.
I am of the belief that the world’s best military aircraft are manufactured right here at the BAE plants in Warton and Samlesbury. However a number of defence spending blunders by our Coalition government have resulting in many workers fearing for their jobs.
More work is needed to promote British manufacturers to the governments of emerging markets to safeguard these plants and create new jobs. However, I also believe that it is also the duty of our government to ensure that any new aircraft orders for our armed forces come from British based firms such as BAE.
Yours faithfully
Paul Nuttall
